It's been a very long time since I have been so into a manga I literally count the days to the release of new chapters. This series is stunning, both for it's delightful artistry, but also for it's storytelling. The world is immersive, expansive, and feels limitless. The characters are captivating, compelling, and each chapter just leaves you wanting more. Hand's down one of the most thorough world's I've had the pleasure to get sucked into, the lore is just so wonderful and deeply integrated into the storytelling process it's a true gem and work of art. If you haven't given this series a try I urge you to do so, the anime is also wonderful and follows the manga to a T. Don't miss out on this on this one, you wont regret it!
Some of the imagery in this volume really took my breath away. The art style is really showing itself here and the plot moves along quicker as well. There were some bits that made me smile and laugh and others that made me "aww" almost out loud. The characters are being developed in interesting ways. Elias is still a mystery but I'm beginning to get the sense that he's more around Chise's age in Fae logic which makes the whole bride thing make more sense. I really enjoyed the lore in the last 2 books as well. Just. There are so many interesting dynamics at play here and it's such a deep, rich world. I'm trying to savor the third book but I'll definately be pre-ordering the next books to come out!!!
This is my second manga series I have started collecting recently. As such, I can't really comment on whether this story has cliche tropes that are commonly seen in manga. What I can say is that, I've enjoyed both volumes that have released so far and I've loved the characters introduced. I don't take much interest in certain manga, such as Dragon Ball, Naruto, etc, because I prefer more western fantasy themes which I believe is why I'm loving this series. I personally thought the art was great, but as I'm still relatively new to the medium, I don't have much to look to for comparison. I definitely recommend picking up this series, and as of the time of this review, it has a discount, so pick it up if it sounds like your thing.
Kore Yamazaki's artwork is simple but elegant, the inhuman designs of well-known figures such as Spriggan and Oberon being the highlights of the volume for me. There's definitely a mystical quality to the backgrounds that communicate clearly the influence of magic and fae in the story. Yamazaki clearly shows a lot of patience in getting all the small details down, which reflects perfectly the pacing of the story: patient. It's clear there's a lot more of this magic in the future, whether it's more details on Chise's "condition," Elias' background, the practice of magic itself, or the in-depth mythology Ancient Magus' Bride draws inspiration from. I'd say the series is a bit of a slow boil, but as the old axiom says, good things come to those who wait.
I've read it before and it's a great story. Slow pace but there's so much depth into it. I give 5 star for the story but 3 for the shipping. primarly cause the book got damaged and considering these are still new releases there's no protective cover over them at all.
The art work is fantastic. The cover alone makes vol. 2 worth buying. This story keeps getting at my heartstrings. If you aren't watching the anime, but your reading this- why not both?! I haven't seen a fantasy anime this good in ages! However, I'm taking the whole product into account here. My copy came with bent pages and a cover (Nooo! Not the beautiful cover! ;A;)I think I can flatten out the bends if I leave it under a heavy book, but darn it amazon! If it works I'll edit my review.
Saw the first episode of the anime and knew RIGHT away I was gonna buy this. Worth it.
The anime taken from this manga is a touchstone work; the manga itself is gorgeous, anachronistic and compelling. A wounded heroine, a mysterious benefactor. Gothic and modern, lovely.
